Comprehensive Eye Exams

Your Vision, Our Focus:

Comprehensive Eye Exams for Lifelong Eye Health.

Unlike a vision screening or other general eye test, comprehensive eye exams evaluate the entire health of the eye. They also help the optometrist determine your unique prescription. Comprehensive eye exams should begin as an infant to ensure proper eye and vision development. Ongoing eye health examinations at regular intervals are important for early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems, as many eye diseases and vision changes can occur without warning signs.

What does a comprehensive eye exam include?

Your comprehensive adult eye examination will include:

  • Evaluation of your personal and family medical history as it pertains to eye health.
  • Tests to measure your visual clarity.
  • Initial assessments for vision and eye health, including checks for depth perception, color recognition, peripheral vision, and how your pupils react to light.
  • Analysis to determine if you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism through the assessment of your refractive status.
  • Examination of your eye's focusing capability, as well as how well your eyes work together and follow movement.
  • A thorough examination of the overall health of your eyes.
  • Additional testing if required based on the initial findings
During a comprehensive eye exam, your eye doctor does much more than just determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Your doctor will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, color vision, assess how your eyes work together, and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health. The exam will include testing with a Snellen chart to determine the sharpness of your vision.

Why is it Important to Get Regular Eye Exams?

Comprehensive eye exams often are the first way chronic systemic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes are detected. Regular eye exams are the best way to ensure your overall health, as well as maintaining your best vision possible.
